Developing Curriculum and Delivering Training for Nurses

Sigma supported a ShiftSelect implementation for nurses in a large healthcare provider.  The project included curriculum development with respect to the training guides, the creation of topic-based modules, quick reference guides, and instructional videos.  In addition, Sigma helped deliver the training, configuring the delivery for three business units within the organization.

Supporting a Nursing ERP Implementation

Sigma’s deliverables for the healthcare provider included curriculum development, training delivery, and support services.

Curriculum for this project included revising the training guide, including the complete redesign of the user training guides into self-study education systems.  Four course-centered training guides provided by the software company were reconfigured into 33 topic-based modules, 9 Quick Guides/Brochures for frequent tasks and 13 instructional videos with narrated screen capture.  They included the revision of existing content and creation of new content to match the healthcare provider’s settings and practices.  In addition, we created standardized templates for any future guides, and created additional resources in a variety of formats to help address frequently asked questions from system users.

Sigma also supported the implementation and provided training for the client.  We assisted with system build and configuration for three Business Units (BU’s) based on user submitted specifications and assisted with prepping materials for four BU implementations.  We acted as assistant instructor for one BU implementation, including leading some of the courses, and acted as the primary instructor for all courses for three BU implementations.  In addition, we developed training content for staff rounding prior to system go-live and trained experienced users from BU’s already on the system to act as staff rounders, as well as training new users directly.  Sigma developed and led single-day training for new managers based on existing 3-course sequence and customized topic-based screensavers with information and reminders for staff to coordinate with each phase of implementation.

Sigma also provided technical support for the implementation, manifest in email, phone and in-person technical support for questions on intermediate to advanced software usage, as well as covered email Help Box 2-3 days/week, including weekend and evening support during implementation go-live.

Sigma updated the appropriate process and procedure documentation, including the creation of a shared One Note Notebook with documentation on Operations Team processes, as well as a shared One Note Notebook with system setting details for all units live on ShiftSelect.  In addition, Sigma created an Implementation Timeline Template using MS Project to auto-populate implementation schedule based on Go Live date and helped to create and maintain other tracking documents on system usage and status as needed.

For reporting purposes, Sigma created templates and instructions to allow various departments to run customized Excel reports from system data and created assessment reports on system usage by unit 1-year post implementation.

Technologies

Sigma followed the client’s implementation and training methodology.  The software on the project included: Software API/GE ShiftSelect (web-based staff scheduling); MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project; and Screenpresso (screen capture).

Value

Sigma was able to deliver three “go-live” rounds of training, covering 500+ employees and 20+ administrators.  Additionally, Sigma delivered training artifacts for the clients ongoing use, including  customized written training modules, as well as video tutorials and classroom content for new and existing users.  The Sigma team also produced templates and instructions to allow customized reports to be run by diverse user groups including ShiftSelect implementation team, nursing resource pool and hospital Chief Nursing Officers.
